Aussie billionaire James Packer and Hollywood legend Robert De Niro are nearing the finish line on a “barefoot luxury” playground.

The former casino tycoon and Oscar-winner are finalising the Nobu Beach Inn on the Caribbean island of Barbuda.

Luxury villas at the resort are set to cost an eye-watering $US12 million ($A18.4 million).

The $US500million ($A733 million) development is a joint venture between the 58-year-old Aussie businessman, The Godfather Part II actor, and Daniel Shamoon, the co-owner of Luxury Hotel Partner.

Set across 162 hectares, the resort will feature 17 luxury villas and 25 beachfront bungalows.

The bungalows are being pitched as “turnkey” residences where owners can access a 45m stretch of private beach and the resort’s elite rental program.

Amenities at the Nobu Beach Inn include an oceanfront pool, indoor and outdoor spa, kids’ club, outdoor cinema, two tennis courts, two padel courts, and gym pavilion.

Other restaurants will complement Nobu, including an oceanfront grill featuring local catch and an omakase sushi bar.

Packer and De Niro have been close friends and business partners since 2015, when the Australian tycoon bought a stake in the actor’s Nobu restaurant and hotel empire.

The pair have previously spoken of their mutual respect in the international property development.

“Bob and I are going to build the best resort in the Caribbean together,” Packer previously said of the project.

“We are going to build something unique and beautiful. I believe Barbuda will also prove to be an excellent commercial development. I love being in business with Bob. He is a living legend.”

Packer said he was confident that he and the Heat actor would “do well financially” out of the deal.

De Niro, 82, described the Australian businessman as a “gentleman” and an ideal partner.

“Working with Jamie has always been the best of experiences,” De Niro said.

“He’s a gentleman and always sensitive to the feelings of others, in the best sense. It’s an honour to work with him and be his partner.”

The Goodfellas star said he knew the island was “special” from the moment he arrived.

“We wanted to create a place that’s comfortable, where everyone wants to gather and embrace the essence of the island,” he said.

Construction of Nobu Beach Inn is set to be completed in late 2026.
